How to Schedule and Take Your Part 107 Knowledge Test
From creating an IACRA profile to walking out with a temporary certificate: the exact steps, in order.
- Create an IACRA profile to get your FAA Tracking Number (FTN)
- Book at a PSI testing center; bring photo ID
- 60 questions, 70% to pass, about 2 hours allowed
- Submit Form 8710-13 in IACRA after passing; temporary certificate valid 120 days
- Failed? Retest after 14 calendar days
Step 1: Get your FAA Tracking Number (FTN)
The first step in obtaining your remote pilot certificate is to obtain an FAA Tracking Number (FTN) by creating an IACRA profile on the FAA's IACRA website. IACRA is the Integrated Airman Certification and Rating Application, which is how the FAA processes applications for your knowledge test and your certificate.
Step 2: Schedule the knowledge test
The initial knowledge test is administered by the FAA at an approved testing center. You can search for the nearest testing facility by visiting PSI's FAA testing site and clicking "Find A Test Center" on the main menu bar. Be sure to have a current photo ID on the date of your test.
You must pass the 60-question test with a grade of 70% or higher, which means at least 42 correct answers. Throughout our course we provide quizzes at the end of each section so you understand the content and get a feel for what to expect on the actual FAA exam.
Step 3: Apply for your certificate (Form 8710-13)
After you pass, you'll need to complete and submit FAA Form 8710-13 (shown below), available on the IACRA site, to obtain your remote pilot certificate. Your 17-digit Knowledge Test ID will be available on your profile to include on this form. The FAA uses it to evaluate your qualifications and eligibility before issuing the certificate.
Once approved, a temporary certificate is issued and is valid for up to 120 days. It expires on the date shown, on receipt of your permanent certificate, or on notice that the certificate is denied or revoked.
Test-day rules
You may not copy or take a test outside the facility, give another applicant any part or copy of the test, give or receive assistance during the test period, take a test for another person or have someone take it for you, use any aiding material, or intentionally cause, assist, or participate in any of these acts. Anyone found doing so is prohibited for one year from applying for any test, certificate, rating, or authorization issued under Part 107.
If you fail your initial knowledge test, you may reapply 14 calendar days after the failure.
